Chest X-ray image recognition algorithm approved in Europe for accurate diagnosis of tuberculosis

Release date: 2018-06-04

Recently, medical new company Qure.ai announced that its chest x-ray AI product qXR has obtained CE certification and is expected to be listed in 32 countries in Europe.

Qure.ai is an AI cutting-edge company founded in 2016 to harness the power of artificial intelligence to make medical services easier. Qure.ai's deep neural network technology allows for the interpretation of medical images with unprecedented precision and allows the machine to perform routine diagnostic procedures to improve treatment outcomes and reduce treatment costs.

According to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 10.4 million people were infected with tuberculosis in 2016 alone, and 1.7 million of them died of complications. However, 40% of cases missed the best treatment opportunity because they did not get a timely and correct diagnosis.

The qXR product developed by Qure.ai can bring solutions to the above problems. Qure.ai obtained X-ray images of more than 1 million tuberculosis patients from about 15 institutions and established an image database. The researchers then used these images to train artificial intelligence algorithms to diagnose tuberculosis. qXR uses a heat map or a box to circle an abnormal part of the image, allowing the doctor to quickly diagnose the condition. In a preliminary study, qXR was more than 90% accurate in the correct diagnosis of tuberculosis.

“Chest X-ray is one of the most commonly used radiological detection methods, but it may be the most difficult means of interpretation,” said Dr. Shalini Govil, Quality Inspector of Columbia Asia Radiology Group. “By providing verifiable reports, Qure.ai's products It can assist radiologists in diagnosis and treatment. At the same time, Qure.ai has developed a technique to visualize the algorithm so that we can see the world of algorithm rendering. I think this will be the key to the development of AI. ”

At the same time, Qure.ai also released an online platform that allows radiologists to test the performance of qXR and provide users with real-time interpretation of chest X-ray images.

“We are very excited to receive this certification, which will help us enter the European market,” said Dr. Prashant Warier, co-founder and CEO of Qure.ai. “qXR can help doctors quickly and accurately detect and diagnose abnormalities in images. Situation, thereby reducing the chance of misdiagnosis."

Qure.ai plans to submit an application to the US FDA within the next 6 to 12 months. We hope that this product will be available globally as soon as possible, thus benefiting more patients with tuberculosis.
